What is a Cream Charger?

A whipped cream charger is a metal cylinder filled with nitrous oxide. They are used as a whipping agent in a whipped cream dispenser.

With the ability to inject pressurised gas into a liquid and aerate it quickly and safely, they have been used for a wide range of purposes, primarily in the food and drink industry. They even have the ability to more than double the volume of cream you input!

Some of the culinary uses of pressurised chargers are:

Whipped cream

Mousses and desserts

Adding foams to cocktails

Infusing oil, sauces, syrups and marinades

How Do You Use a N2O Cream Charger?

Always take care when opening a n2o cream charger, and only use them for their intended use. There is a danger of burning your hands due to how cold they get once opened. Always follow the instructions given for the canisters themselves, and the container you are using.

Place your whipper charger into the holder with the smallest end facing upwards. Gently twist the charger holder onto the head of the canister until you hear a hiss. The hiss means that the gas is being released! Shake your cream dispenser a few times and start using it.

Do cream chargers expire?

N2O chargers can lose their potency after 5 years. They are long lasting, so make sure you shake your cream dispenser properly before use!
